Another excellent option is boardgames.  They are very different games than video games because they are more social.  With children's board games the child interacts more with other children.  We should look for board games that the kids will like, but that will also make them apply themselves, to have to use their intellect to win.  We are not only referring to question and answer games.  We are talking about games that will make the child have to really think to come up with the answer, to have to create strategies to win the game.
